Ardaros is an Ardnamurchan cottage in the midst of a wealth of wildlife along the shores of Loch Sunart, and in the hills and sky above. Otters are regularly spotted down by the loch side at dawn, most reliably at Ardnastang. Seals bask and breed on the rocks along Loch Sunart, with a colony last year in Loch Teachius. Dolphins are a common sight. A whale watching boat expedition from Tobermory is a popular and usually successful day trip in mid-summer.
Red and roe deer are abundant and are sometimes seen from the house. Walk along the River Strontian up through the Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve and you may catch a glimpse of a pine marten, red squirrel or wildcat.
The area is also a haven for Scottish bird life, especially birds of prey. Both golden and white-tailed eagles are present, though more frequently spotted on Mull.
